Yesterday morning I woke up and like magic the bright sun had disappeared to an episode of thunder and heavy rain fall.
I happen to love the rain. Especially since the past weather has been so hot and humid, and even more so because there hasn’t been much of it. A heavy downpour turns the outside peaceful and desolute, and I find it cozy and comforting. Being the homebody that I am, the #1 reason why I love rain is that I don’t feel guilty about staying inside. I can watch television and read and peruse the internet without the sun nagging me to come out and enjoy it!
I spent this particular rainy day going through my room cleaning stuff out as well as adding to my bag of things to sell in what I hope to be a future mini yard sale. I’m all about getting rid of things that have been left untouched for years, or even months. Summer break is the perfect time to do so. The perks not only include de-cluttering, simplifying, and letting go of attachments to the past, but also rediscovering old items that now appear cool and new. My style and taste and interests are forever changing, so the things I once disliked have the potential of being presented to me in a totally new light. It’s like going to a yard sale or a thrift store – except it’s all my stuff and therefore free!
I wanted to share with you some of my recent findings and hope to inspire you to take the time to look through your room (and if you don’t live at home anymore to take a trip there) and see what you can a) get rid of and b) find new purpose in. Love this personalized, looks-like-a-kid-made-it beaded bracelet I think someone gave me for my Bat Mitzvah. The other has a heart shaped charm with my name engraved in it.
Found this lunchbox in a cabinet in the kitchen. Found a bunch of cool cards I can frame as wall art. Found this tin full of candy perfect for earrings, buttons, or little trinkets!
Mom’s old shorts I’d taken from her closet years ago, a pair of gloves from my grandmother, and a pink harmonica bought by a friend in Michigan.
Tiny book my best friend gave me one birthday. Going on the bookcase in my apartment.
Beads spelling out my name. Could make a bracelet or incorporate them into a crown.
Hat I got for $1 last year, supposedly Amish made. This summer I really want to try to start wearing it.
Unworn shoes hidden in the back of my closet I jazzed up with some new shoelaces. Shoelaces, or ribbon, are an inexpensive way to transform your shoes.
